Ann Arbor Book FestivalThursday, May 15 – Sunday, May 18, 2008UCLL, in collaboration with the 5th annual Ann Arbor Book Festival, sponsored a visit by Dr. Stephen Buchmann, a nationally recognized expert on pollination and bee conservation. He is the author of Letters from the Hive: An Intimate History of Bees, Honey and Humankind and The Bee Tree, a children’s book. Dr. Buchmann offered a series of talks, workshops, and book signings throughout the festival. On Wednesday, May 14, his talk titled "Disappearing Honey Bees & Bumble Bees: What’s Happening to our Polllinators?" was very well received by those in attendance at the Pittsfield Public Library. This event was sponsored by UCLL with help from Project Grow, Inc and the Ann Arbor District Library. UCLL hosted a reception and book signing for Dr. Buchmann on Thursday evening. Teens had great fun at a workshop "Cooking with Honey" on Friday afternoon where Dr. Buchmann talked with them about bees and honey; and the students got to make some recipes using honey, which they then enjoyed! On Saturday, Dr. Buchmann participated in a panel with other environmental researchers, educators, and activists at the Ann Arbor Book Festival. Overall, we all enjoyed having Dr. Buchmann in Ann Arbor as he heightened our awareness of the state of the bees and pollinators in our community, nation, and the world. ![]() More on Dr. Stephen Buchmann Dr. Buchmann is the International Coordinator for The Pollinator Partnership™.
