University Center for the Development of the Language and Literacy (UCLL)

Our language and literacy evaluations are comprehensive assessments that provide clients and family members with a clear understanding of the individual’s competencies in the following areas:

  • expressive, receptive, and pragmatic language
  • speech/phonological processing disorders/apraxia
  • decoding, reading fluency, and comprehension (dyslexia)
  • writing
  • spelling
  • specific language-learning disabilities
  • auditory processing
  • oral motor difficulties

Evaluations are performed by Master’s-level speech-language pathologists and take three to four hours. Family members are able to observe behind a one-way mirror. Following these evaluations, clients and/or families are provided with a report that outlines recommendations for speech and language therapy, activities for home practice, and school supports. Recommendations include the client’s present level of functioning and clearly outline the path he or she needs to take to get the needed support to succeed academically and in life.
