Research News
Research staff members have been working with elementary schools in
Flint Community Schools and Jackson Public Schools. We have
collected language information from about 100 students in
kindergarten and first grade. The data will be compiled and become
part of an ongoing project that examines developmental
relationships between oral language and reading in young diverse
learners. Currently, the research team has one publication under
review and two papers that have been accepted for presentation at
conferences.
Some UMAP clients have been involved with aphasia research at
the Center. Dr. Robert Marshall, a visiting professor specializing
in aphasia research, has been working with research staff and
clinicians to examine relationships between type and severity of
aphasia and differential responses to intensive treatment.
