American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) conference
November 20, 2008
This year, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association annual
meeting will be held in Chicago, IL and we are taking advantage of
this close proximity to Ann Arbor. Many of our clinical staff will
be attending. You can visit us at our exhibit booth, stop by our
poster presentation on PACT, and attend our paper presentation on
UMAP. Our staff is very excited about this opportunity to learn
about the latest in speech-language treatment, catch up with
friends and colleagues from around the country, and have a bit of
fun in the Windy City!
Judy Nantau, Stephanie Hensel, Ann Telfer, Maria Wyche, and
Cherie Gillman will be presenting a poster called, "PACT: A
Naturalistic, Intensive Intervention Model for 18- to 36- month
olds and their Parents." This poster describes PACT: Preschool and
Communication Therapy, an innovative program developed at the
University of Michigan, for the increasing numbers of very young
children needing speech-language intervention services. PACT is
short-term, intensive, with high ecological validity. The
presentation provides professionals with the information necessary
to develop similar programs in their own communities, including
underlying principles, samples of age-appropriate materials,
examples of instruments needed to chart communication change in
such a young population, data collection, reduction, and
interpretation methods needed to support evidence-based practice,
and preliminary outcomes supporting the value of this type of
program.
Robert C. Marshall, Annie Kennedy, and Mimi Block will be
presenting a paper titled "A Clinical Alternative to the Token
Test." They will present the paper on November 22, 2008 from 11:30
AM-11:45 AM in Room W476 of McCormick Place West.
