The University Center for the Development of Language and Literacy (UCLL) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor offers language and literacy services to adults and children from Southeast Michigan and beyond. Our programs include the nationally attended University of Michigan Aphasia Program (UMAP) for adults, the Preschool and Communication Therapy program (PACT), and a variety of programs that help families and individuals deal with these challenges:

  • Aphasia
  • ADHD and ADD
  • Language disorders
  • Learning disabilities
  • Reading problems
  • Social skills development
  • Special education needs

UCLL's research program examines the relationships between oral language and literacy acquisition. For more than a decade, a major focus has been on improving understanding of the oral language and literacy skills of African American students.

"Patient/clinician weekly meetings were very helpful. The music therapy component was AWESOME! We’ve been so impressed with this program. Our child has thrived in this environment, and we’re so excited for her in other programs you may offer in the future."
(Summer Program parent, 2005)
