The University Center for the Development of Language and Literacy (UCLL) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor offers language and literacy services to adults and children from Southeast Michigan and beyond. Our programs include the nationally attended University of Michigan Aphasia Program (UMAP) for adults, the Preschool and Communication Therapy program (PACT), and a variety of programs that help families and individuals deal with these challenges:

  • Aphasia
  • ADHD and ADD
  • Dyslexia
  • Language disorders
  • Learning disabilities
  • Reading problems
  • Social skills development
  • Special education needs

UCLL's research program examines the relationships between oral language and literacy acquisition. For more than a decade, a major focus has been on improving understanding of the oral language and literacy skills of African American students.

"I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your care for our daughter. You’ve done so much to try to make the program helpful to her. I thank you for your critical part in accomplishing the goal of assisting her to be all she can be."
(Parent of 22-year-old, 2006)
